William James McClain is Music Director and Conductor of the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (IN) . He has appeared in major venues across the United States and abroad including Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Sheremetev Palace in Saint Petersburg Russia
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is excited to announce that William McClain will be its next Music Director. McClain will begin the appointment on July 1st and will lead the orchestra into their 102nd Season. While details for each concert will be released in August, the 2024-2025 Season will take place on the following dates: October 20, 2024, December 8, 2024, February 9, 2025, April 27, 2025, and June 8, 2025.
Maestro McClain appeared on Decatur's WAND T.V. live to promote the Symphony Orchestra Guild of Decatur and to showcase the talents of Millikin University Students.
The Exponent interviewed violist Dr. William McClain and pianist Dr. Kaju Lee, who both performed in the guest artist recital “Glass Slipper ‘n Things” on April 24. Dr. McClain also presented “Concert Black,” a presentation about his career as “an African American conductor and the challenges presented in the world of academia and classical music for underrepresented groups,” as stated by the event poster.
